Fifth and Sixth Grade - January 23, 2009

The Mount Rainier Chapter of the Mu Alpha Theta Math Honor Society invites all fifth and sixth graders to challenge themselves in an individual math test and team tests in Algebra, Geometry, Pressure Round and Who Wants to be a Mathematician. So get some friends together and have some fun with us and maybe even win some prizes. The tests are short answer style except for the multiple choice "Who Wants to be a Mathematician." There are NO calculators permitted on any of the tests.

The contests will be held in the newly renovated Mount Rainier High School; 22450 19th Ave S., Des Moines, WA 98198.

4:10 - 4:30pm Check-in
4:30 - 4:45pm Welcome and Opening Instructions
4:45 - 5:25pm Individual Test (30 questions)
5:35 - 5:50pm Algebra Team Test (10 questions)
5:55 - 6:10pm Pressure Round (5 questions)
6:10 - 7:00pm Dinner (Pizza / Pop available or bring your own)
7:05 - 7:20pm Geometry Team Test (10 questions)
7:25 - 7:40pm Who Wants to be a Mathematician
7:50 - 8:30pm Oral Rounds for the top 8 Individuals and Awards

Awards will be given to the top individuals and teams in each of two divisions. The BLUE division is for large schools (more than 100 in the grade) or "Challenge"/"Magnet" schools. Smaller, open enrollment schools may participate in the WHITE division. Registration is $30 per team of up to four students and $10 for an Individual. Please register with the school name, division, the name of a contact person, and the number of teams that will be attending. Register by January 13th.
